Poh Bee Choo

Poh Bee Choo 傅美珠

Poh Bee Choo was raised in an artistic aspiring family in Kuching, Sarawak of East Malaysia. Both her parents and siblings were actively involved in the local art scene. Her father, Poh Poi Guan was an art teacher and her mother, Tan Chiew Pek was proficient in embroidery.

 

Since young, she was exposed to the fascinating world of art. Hence cultivating her strong interest in art. In 1971, she came to Singapore together with her sister Poh Bee Yong to study western painting in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, which was mentored and guided by Chen Chong Swee, See Hiang Too, Georgette Chen, Huang Yik Chuan and See Cheen Tee.

 

After her graduation, she went back to her hometown and was doing stage design in the local TV station. In 1976, she came back to Singapore and became an art teacher in Yamaha music school for many years.

 

Over the years she has been constantly improving and researching in Chinese brush painting and jewellery beads design. Aside from being a professional artist, she also manages Art Gallery 3. She is also a member of Siaw-Tao Chinese Seal Carving Calligraphy & Painting Society, The Society of Chinese Artists and NAFA Alumni Association.
